Should you wear a veil?

Veil or No Veil: that’s the question!

I recently had a TLJ Bride ask about the pros/cons of adding a veil, and decided to tell everyone my opinion!

From a photographers (and videographer’s) standpoint, a veil can be a WOW moment for sure! There’s so much extra poses and angles we can do with a veil: romantic close poses under the veil, the veil softly catching in the wind, the veil creating directional angles, and SO MUCH MORE.

But if that’s not enough to convince you… here’s a few more practical reasons! First and most importantly, is that a veil can actually help HIDE “self-conscious” areas that some of us girls are concerned about. If our bride has acne, or scarring on her back or is even self-conscious about her back in a strapless dress – a veil helps to HIDE all of that. LOTS of our brides say their arms are the one area they don’t love – and a delicately placed veil also helps with bringing attention away from a bare arm! It’s a WIN-win situation!

So maybe you’re convinced now that you want a veil!
BUT here a few things to consider before you run out and buy one:

1. COLOR.
Please bring your dress along when choosing your veil, and find a perfect color match. There’s nothing worse than having an ivory dress, and then choosing a PURE WHITE veil that actually photographs BLUE in the shade next to your ivory dress. It does NOT look good. (If you’re a TLJ Bride, reach out if you have any questions about this!)

2. PRICE.
I know veils can be expensive! Some of our brides have borrowed veils from their friends as their “something borrowed” and it’s so special AND cost-effective! BUT if you want a new one, and can’t afford one from a Bridal Boutique – search around on Esty for custom made ones! And keep in mind the COLOR issue I discussed above!

3. LENGTH.
Ya’ll know I’m a SUCKER for a longgggg veil. It allows for so much versatility, and will ALWAYS be a classic length, never going out of style! However, talk to your Bridal Boutique about what length they recommend with your style of dress.

4. STYLE
You can NEVER go wrong with a simple, plain long veil. Sometimes the veils with tons of beading, sequins, and lace can DETRACT from your beautiful wedding dress. That’s never good! However, if you have a classic lace dress, sometimes adding a similar lace scalloped edge around the edge of your veil can compliment it perfectly.

So I hope all that information helps! For even MORE inspiration, here are a few of my FAVORITE recent veil photos! Let me know what you decided that’s best for you – veil or no veil?! 🙂
