Our Wedding Day | October 12, 2013 | The Bluegrass Barn
Of course we’re biased – but we look back on our wedding day as OUR BEST DAY EVER. After dating for only 6 months, and engaged for only 5 months, we were getting married!!! 🙂
We found the cutest little barn in our hometown, found out who the farmers were, and asked if we could use their barn as our wedding venue! It was the PERFECT location because we loved the vaulted wooden ceilings as our ceremony spot, the eclectic downstairs and outdoor patio for our cocktail hour, and a big white tent outside as our reception!
Our goal was to have a FUN, simple, and happy wedding day. Even though it rained on our wedding day – there’s not a single thing that could have wiped that grin off my face all day! I was the absolute happiest bride, and didn’t stress over a single thing ALL DAY. It was magical…. I was so so so happy to be marrying Phillip!
Phillip and I did as much work for our wedding as possible! I designed all the invitations, programs, signage, photobooth, made our chocolate chip cookie favors, and did lots of hand lettering. Phillip built our arbor and hung our ceremony backdrop, booked our musicians, planned all the music, and did tons of the grunt work.
We wanted something different and unique for our wedding – somewhere no one else had been married before. We decided to not have boutonnières, not do the garter/bouquet tosses, and I even stood on the opposite side for the ceremony (to show off my “good side”, you know, haha!) I made my bouquet out of both my grandmothers brooches. I played basketball with my dad (a college basketball coach) for our Father/Daughter Dance, instead of dancing. Phillip included his brothers in his Mother/Son dance to the Boyz to Men song, “Mama”. We had a popcorn bar (because ya’ll know I’m obsessed with popcorn!) and live folk music at cocktail hour. We had mini coke bottles since Phillip loved coke, and a whole table full of desserts instead of just our wedding cake. We wrote our own vows, and danced to one of Phillip’s own songs. We just made our wedding day “our own” instead of feeling pressured to do what other people wanted us to – and it was so perfect.
We are so thankful to Chelsea and Will of Chelsea Collins Photography (and Megan of Megan Morales Photography) for capturing our wedding day. Chelsea allowed us to be her FIRST wedding, and we are forever grateful for her talent!
Also, thank you to Melody Raper for my amazing updo! You made me feel so beautiful that day!
