Kelsey & Corey | Charlotte Engagement Session | August 16, 2022
It’s not often that we get the opportunity to photograph somewhere completely “new” to us – but Kelsey and Corey wanted us to come to their part of the state and we happily did! It was so fun to explore a new location and be creative in it! 🙂
As NC transplants, Corey and Kelsey have fallen in love with North Carolina and never want to leave! They are even having their wedding at the Highgrove Estate in Fuquay-Varina, and can’t wait for all their family & friends from VA, Alabama, & beyond to come see why they love NC so much! 🙂
We were so excited to finally meet these two in person, and of course meet their 2-year old lab, Margot! We’d planned on a sunrise Engagement Session, so we got to Charlotte Monday night and scouted around the beautiful park they chose for their session! I was watching the weather like a hawk all week, and Tuesday morning at sunrise was forecasting cloudy with a 24% chance of rain (that eventually dropped to only 9% chance Tuesday morning when I woke up!)
When my alarm went off Tuesday morning at 5:45am, it was DARK. Since there was no actual sunrise with such a dark & cloudy day, I texted Kelsey and last-minute asked them to push our session until 8:00am! They both were so understanding & flexible and were totally fine with that!
Kelsey and Corey arrived and looked like perfection in their first outfit!!! Their choices were so “southern” and classic – and I was literally SO SO HAPPY to see their outfits! It was a beautiful combination with all the nature and not too loud or bold for such a serene-looking location. (But truly, there were runners FLYING AROUND US, and lots of walkers & other dogs! So we did our best to make it look empty, haha!)
Of course, as bad luck would have it – it was MISTING RAIN for our session (I guess that 9% chance was pretty strong?) and never stopped until the very end of our session. We were dealing with a dark day, misting rain, and trying to keep Kelsey’s hair looking pretty (and trying to avoid muddy Margot paws on any clothes, haha!) but you would never guess with how these photos turned out! Thankfully, we had scouted a beautiful tree full of large beaches & leaves to keep us mostly dry! Corey and Kelsey both had amazing attitudes about dealing with all the weather and just embraced it!
Phillip was on “Margot duty” and got in 3.5 miles of exploring around the park with her while her parents were taking photos! Then, when it was her time to join for photos, she did an INCREDIBLE job and looked so cute smiling with her ears all perked up!!!
We had the best time exploring around the park – talking about traveling, houses, wedding dress shopping, teaching, watching ALONE, and just having fun! A huge thanks to these two for embracing all the changes & curveballs the weather threw at us!
I can’t wait for ya’ll to see all my favorite photos from our beautiful session together! ENJOY!!!!
