Buckhorn Lake Wedding | Katie & Seth | June 17, 2017
Not many girls can say their groom planned and prepared for a lot of the wedding HIMSELF, but Katie can sure brag on Seth saying it!!! Since Seth and Katie have been STATES apart during their entire relationship, they’ve definitely learned how to make things work long distance. So when they planned a North Carolina wedding when Katie lived in Virginia and her family in New York (and beyond!) we weren’t surprised that everything went smoothly.
Seth and his mom, Crystal, were actually the ones who had the initial meeting to book us! Katie trusted their judgment, and didn’t get to meet us in person until the month before their wedding day! Katie also trusted Seth and the Bruton family to make a backyard wedding of their dreams – by doing intense land moving, renovations, and landscaping.
When we arrived on their wedding day, the property was gorgeous. So much attention to detail was showing: the beautiful flowered arbor, a British flag flying in honor of their engagement in London, Seth’s hand painted cornhole boards, an air conditioned reception tent, and even a graffitied sea wall done by the bridal party the night before!
Unfortunately, a storm was brewing over the water, and it was just a matter of time for the skies to open up and downpour. During all the getting-ready images, it was POURING outside the windows, and we were hoping for a break. Katie’s bridesmaids and bridesmen were SO encouraging, and kept her spirits high, and were willing to go outside in the rain if needed for photos!!!
Just 20 MINUTES before Katie was supposed to walk down the aisle, we were able to take the bridal parties outside as the rain slowed to a sprinkle, and quickly shoot as all the guests were held off from arriving quite yet.
Thankfully, the rain completely stopped, and they were able to have the outdoor ceremony of their dreams. Katie gracefully walked down the aisle to a surprise song, “Beauty and the Beast” and Seth cried seeing his bride for the first time. It was SO SPECIAL!!!!
After a sweet ceremony, the reception kicked off – and they treated their guests to Brewmaster’s pouring cold local brews all night, and City BBQ serving a mac n cheese bar along with all the meats & fixin’s! DJ Paul with Generations kicked off the party with dancing, then there were champagne toasts, cake cutting bouquet and garter tosses! We ended our time with a fun sparkler exit!
We just LOVED Seth and Katie’s energy all day, they were laughing and smiling and having the BEST time together. It was one of the most fun weddings, because everyone was so HAPPY and excited, and kind. We wish Katie and Seth all the best, and we know you’ll have a wonderful life (finally in the same STATE!) Enjoy our favorite images from the day!!!
