Our [second] Bathroom Renovation!

Our [second] bathroom renovation  |  Tiffany &  Phillip  |  April/May 2020

Hey friends! It’s been a while since we’ve posted a home renovation blog! If you’ve missed seeing some of our other home reno posts, the kitchen renovation blog can be found HERE, and the fancy room reno can be found HERE!

When we moved into our house 4 years ago, we were trying to quickly renovate all the rooms while living with Phillip’s parents AND photographing 31 weddings! (Yes, it was as insane as it sounds!!!!!)

With doing everything so fast, I didn’t get to slowly design each room completely – and I had some regrets… one being the downstairs bathroom! So after 4 years, Phillip was sweet enough to say he’d help me renovate it AGAIN!!!

This ½ bath is VERY small, located under our staircase. It originally had crazy loud pink wallpaper, a HUGE white vanity that took up half the room, and dated light fixtures.

THE FIRST RENOVATION:

The first renovation – we ripped out the vanity to replace with a smaller one (the only good choice I made in there, haha!) and it really helped to make the small room feel a little bigger. I tore down the wallpaper, did a really bad job of spackling and chose an awfully dark color to paint. It was like a dungeon in there, and I’ve hated it for 4 years HAHA.

After seeing my friend Whitney Davis (of C&D Events) design her son’s nursery with custom chair railing, it gave me the perfect idea to replicate and give our bathroom more of a finished look!

I wanted the tiny bathroom to feel as bright and airy as possible (but still include my favorite color – BLACK!) and decided to soften the traditional black/white tones with warm gold fixtures.

Phillip is SUPER TALENTED and very patient to put up with all my ideas. He made a custom chair railing that’s super tall, to bring your eyes UP to the tall ceiling to make the room feel luxurious and bigger!!! It took me FOUR COATS of white paint… and took about 2 hours PER COAT to paint. Woowwwww it was a labor of love!

My sister Angela helped me hang wallpaper (it looks like watercolor flowers, and I’m OBSESSED!) and it was a really painstaking job! We also replaced the original toilet with one that was a little taller, whiter, and 1 inch narrower to allow more space for the door to open!!

I used automotive paint to resurface the vanity’s faucet, so I was happy to not have to spend extra money on a new vanity or faucet. I REALLYYYYY wanted a pedestal sink (or even a sink with it’s plumbing exposed!) for the 1st renovation back in 2016 – but whoever installed the plumbing in the bathroom did it OFF-CENTERED, so we have to keep a vanity that hides the pipes. BUMMERRRRR. I was soooooooo sad!!!!

I also wanted the new mirror to be hung “3-D” off the wall, to give more visual interest. I chose a mirror that is elongated, to also bring your eyes UP to make the space feel bigger.

We also hung the light fixtures UP (rather than the fixtures hanging down, like normal!) so it also brings your eyes UP – see a theme here? Trying to use the little bathroom’s tall ceilings tricking you into thinking the space feels BIGGER!!! 🙂

I still need to find a cute rug, (one that’s low-profile so I can open the door over it!) and hang my hand towels with either a towel bar, or using my original gold hooks. Please send me your ideas and suggestions!

Hope you love our little before/afters! Enjoy!!!! 🙂
